在 Hacker News 阅读原文… is Django/Python, and professionally I've spent the most time in C# and personally in Common Lisp (of course recently exploring Clojure). I enjoyed Cal Henderson's book Building Scalable Web Sites, which is PHP-based but not too PHP-specific. With that background, let me ask for the community's judgment and experience: Is there a recommended experienced programmer's guide to PHP with limitations, gotchas, and quirks? Hacker preferences on IDE's, free or not? Tools like remote debuggers? Lint equivalent? Maps of the community, libraries, and available resources? Tradeoffs of Modern frameworks, especially on the ORM side - what's the closest thing to Hibernate? Security, testing, performance best practices guides? Possibilities and limits for integration with C, JVM, .Net, and dynamic languages' existing libraries? Also, using HaXe and com…

在 Hacker News 阅读原文Hehe...perhaps it didn't really surprise me so much, maybe I was just hoping for it to be a bit better! I really don't like code that "hacks together" a solution and then requires a substantial remedy later (who does?!) so I'm quite interested in getting it right from the beginning. Assuming that many of us here develop web applications, and that some are going to need to scale heavily, what do you recommend as a good solution? I have yet to read either of these two books, but they are on my list (I only have one at home, the other I'll order): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Building-Scalable-Web-Sites-Henderso... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Performance-MySQL-Advanced-Technique... Both are O'Reilly so I'm assuming they'll be good! Let me know if you have any other resources for this, because I imagine it's a very common issue for successful startups…

This isn't the type of complexity that expands your mind, though: it's death by thousand papercuts. If you want mind-expanding complexity, read SICP, learn Haskell, buy Building Scalable Web Sites by Cal Henderson and read through the LiveJournal source code, learn JQuery and read through the source code, and pick a fast open-source webserver like Lighttpd or Nginx and read through its source code.
