Richard Williams (of Roger Rabbit fame)wrote an excellent book about animation called "The Animator's Survival Kit". Upvoted. As an fan of animation this is indeed an excellent book. Another one I particularly enjoyed is "The Illusion of Life" - particularly the early chapters in which the authors describe describe Walt Disney Studios during their startup days. Fascinating stuff.

I am definitely an early Disney film fan (from an animation perspective). Another book you might read is actually written by two of Disney's "Nine Old Men" called "The Illusion of Life" (Pixar actually did an homage to them in The Incredibles ) and it talks about not only the specific techniques that they created, but also the attitude of the studio in the early days. It's actually interesting to read the history on something like Apple and also Disney and see the many similarities between the two companies in their early days. Early Disney was definitely a startup that had a lot of the hacker values. Walt was definitely on another plane of thinking. My favourite quote of his is: “I can never stand still. I must explore and experiment. I am never satisfied with my work. I resent the limitations of my own imagination” - Walt Disney

…ng that's happened since Walt's death in 66, especially the terrible reign of Michael Eisner from 84 to 05 which nearly killed Disney's animation. There's a book called "The Illusion of Life" that was written by Two of the "Nine Old Men" of animation who were with Walt from the early days. When you read some of the early chapters, Disney held a lot of the values that many Hackers hold including iterating quickly, being open with information (within his own organisation that is) and always pushing the envelope with what was possible.
